The Bootheel self-released their first full-length today. It’s titled Goat’s Lodge and this track is “New Way.” They call their music “aggressively-Midwestern rock ‘n roll” and I can’t disagree.

It’s Friday. Let’s rock the hell out.

My favorite albums of 2012.

Murder by Death’s “Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon” is an obvious number one for me. After that, the albums and rankings are fluid.

Murder By Death “Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon”

Murder By Death isn’t as scary as their band name may suggest. Their new album creates a mood that is both adventurous and introspective. This might be their best work to date (after six previous albums).

Waxahatchee “American Weekend”

Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield) wrote an album that is cold and familiar. Nostalgia for days.

Sun Kil Moon “Among the Leaves”

A great rainy day record.

Restorations “A/B”

Only two songs long, but a taste of great things to come for this band.

The Smith Street Band “Sunshine & Technology”

Fun band from Australia makes an addicting album.

Basement “Colourmeinkindness”

Grunge-y without being too derivative. An impressive feat.

Arliss Nancy “Simple Machines”

One of the best young bands at the alt-country/rock thing. Simple Machines is proof their getting better with each effort.

Best Coast “The Only Place”

Not sure why I can’t stop listening to this, I just can’t, so here it is.

Nick Waterhouse “Time’s All Gone”

Make a modern jazzy/soul album and not sound cheesy, and you’ll have my respect forever.

Downtown Struts “Victoria!”

A straight-forward punk album? I need at least one and this is my favorite of 2012.

Some of my favorite tracks of 2012. This is subject to additions.

This album is so good. Can’t wait for the vinyl to show up in the mail.

Here. Read about Pussy Riot and how they’re being treated in Putin’s Russia.

PRAWNCATS 9: The Reggie Jackson Edition

Get into it. Or don’t. Whatever.

productiveouts:

Hey, we found time to talk! Riley broadcasts live from a closet in Daytona Beach. No lie.

We’ve got:

  • Thrice tour report
  • Emails
  • Angels and Giants state of the unions
  • Baseball Prospectus event at the Oakland Coliseum
  • Ian’s new gig
  • More tour shenanigans
  • Musical guest after the fact: Animals as Leaders

Get into it.

Got notification that this album is in the mail. This song STILL gives me goosebumps.
